Karachi: Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz has provided an update regarding the cyclone emerging in the Arabian Sea and its potential impact on Karachi.
According to details, the cyclone in the Arabian Sea is currently about 200 kilometers away from Karachi and is moving at a speed of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour. It could enter the northeastern Arabian Sea and the adjacent coastal areas of Sindh by this evening.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz stated that the cyclone is moving towards the southwest, and there is no likelihood of it directly hitting Karachi or the coastal areas of Sindh. However, its effects will result in heavy rainfall across Sindh.
Sardar Sarfraz mentioned that a similar cyclone formed in August 1976, but such events are less likely to occur in Karachi during August. The cyclone's impact will be more significant in Rehri Goth, Ibrahim Hyderi, and the coastal areas of Balochistan, where rough sea conditions are expected.
He further added that Balochistan's coastal regions will also feel the effects of the cyclone as it passes close by and moves towards Oman.
